Abstract

Introduction: Myiasis is an infestation by fly larvae affecting human tissues, commonly associated with tropical and subtropical regions. Dermatobia hominis is the most frequent species in Latin America. Although rare, the auricular form can lead to severe complications, such as tympanic perforation or meningitis.
Case Report: A 55-year-old homeless man was admitted due to sepsis secondary to extensive cellulitis. During the evaluation, larvae were found in the left ear canal. Manual extraction of the larvae was performed with favorable progression. The patient was referred to social services for reintegration.
Discussion: Auricular myiasis occurs when larvae infest the external auditory canal. It affects vulnerable populations exposed to unsanitary conditions and immunosuppression. Diagnosis is made through direct inspection, and treatment involves extraction.
Conclusion: This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and comprehensive management of myiasis, especially in vulnerable populations.
