TRASTORNOS TEMPOROMANDIBULARES EN PACIENTES TRATADOS CON APARATOS ORTOPÉDICOS Y/O FUNCIONALES

Objetivo: Evaluar si existe evidencia que relacione el uso de aparatos ortopédicos/ funcionales con el desarrollo de trastornos temporomandibulares (TTM) en pacientes clase II y III esqueletales.
Materiales y métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura basada en PRISMA cuya pregunta de investigación se planteó bajo los criterios PICOD. La búsqueda bibliográfica se llevó a cabo en la base de datos PUBMED y se utilizó la plataforma Abstracker para realizar el cribado. Se seleccionaron los artículos según los criterios de elegibilidad.
Resultados: Se seleccionaron 11 estudios, los cuales fueron revisados y analizados. De los anteriores, 4 fueron Ensayos Clínicos Controlados, 3 Ensayos Clínicos Randomizados y 4 Estudios Cuasiexperimentales. En cuanto a las clases esqueletales, 8 artículos estudiaban pacientes clase II esqueletal (5 clase II-1) y 3 estudios evaluaron pacientes clase III esqueletal.
Conclusión: De la totalidad de los estudios, en ninguno se encontró una asociación entre el uso de un aparato ortopédicos o funcionales y la presencia de TTM. Sin embargo, se observa la necesidad de protocolizar los estudios futuros, tanto en el método de diagnóstico de TTM como también el tiempo de uso del aparato, para lograr conclusiones más certeras, comparables y definitivas.
